I’m writing to you as a CRAZED lady who’s just spent 4 days (mostly) alone with 2 under 6s (my child-carer has been off sick). I have a nervous twitch, my hair is more unkempt than usual (if that’s even possible with dreads), I smell vaguely of urine and an undefined cheese and my left thumb keeps shaking. So be the effect of two tiny ones. I was not made for this I don’t think. If there was an actual interview process for ‘becoming a parent’, people be all like: nah love, don’t do it, you don’t have the stamina for it, just keep painting them pretty pictures and just be ‘the fun aunt’, ask your bro to have some babies. And they’d shake their heads slowly with a pitying look in their eyes (hahaha).
Ok, look, I am surviving and so are my children, but I maintain that I truly believe parenting only really works well if you have a 3 to 1 ratio (3 adults to 1 child), that way *everyone* is happy, and you don’t have 1 person slowing breaking down not even noticing they smell of cheese …
Anyhoo, lol, I do amuse myself, on to happier non-cheese smelling things; I have exciting newsies! :)
Remember last year I was part of the 12 Artsy Ornaments of Christmas run by the awesome Christy Tomlinson? Wellll I’m joining again this year! Wooohooo!
I love being part of this collaborative project as it means I can indulge in my creative paper clay obsession! :) My main gig is usually painting and collaging and so forth but I absolutely LOVE making art dolls and I LOVE working with clay, in particular Creative Paper Clay as it’s beautifully smooth and soft like butter so it’s incredibly easy to use. Have a peek here to look at my previous clay works.
So this year my tutorial for Artsy Ornaments is called: ‘The Stars of your Life” – I wanted to make an ornament that has the option to celebrate your loved ones and also send positive messages and light to your loved ones (and yourself or anyone looking at the garland). Christmas is all about togetherness, love, joy and loving each other (and of course chocolate and presents too ;)), so I thought it would a fun and suitable project.
In my tutorial we’ll make a ‘Star Garland’. The stars are made of paper clay and treated with mixed media layers, we will add the names of our loved ones to the stars and on the back add a word or a msg to them. This garland can be hung up around the festive period (or all year round which is what I’m doing woohoo!). Here are some more pics:
