River of January

Once upon a time I had career as a singer/song writer in mind. But the pressure I put on myself and the cut-throat attitudes in the music industry proved to be too much stress. I decided singing for myself and small audiences that were interested was way better for my stress levels. :) Also the paintbrush’ magnetic pull was harder and harder to resist and eventually became all-consuming (in a good way! haha!).

Recently I’ve been reconnecting with some of the songs I wrote many years ago. They never really made it out onto the intarwebs (they were shy). But last week I released my song ‘River of January’ on Facebook and Youtube and people LOVED it. :) They even asked if they could buy it! :D And then I thought, welll, why not? :) This song is deeply meaningful to me and if it touches people like it did me when I wrote it, it’s doing its job! :)

So, without further ado, River of January is now for sale for £0.99 GBP (approx $1.45 USD). I’m not publishing it through iTunes as they take a fairly big chunk of the sales price leaving very little left for Indie Artists, so people will have to buy it off my site here. :)

Haven’t heard the song yet? Watch/ listen to the video below. :) If you want to buy it (thank you) scroll down. :) xooxox As always: thank you for supporting artists everywhere dear reader, friend, fellow human. xoxo

Lyrics:

“River of January”
Tamara Laporte

I wonder what snow would do if it falls on you.
Would it want to melt, or would it want to love you like I do?
Or would it want to love you like I do?

And the crystal rain is here again.
And the golden flame would walk away.
Don’t turn your back on me, river of January.
Don’t turn your back on me, river of January.

So far away is he even when lying next to me.
Misty eyes gone to sleep and outside the willow weeps.
And outside willow weeps.

He searches without and not within.
He sails his ships through icy winds.
Where will he go, where is he, river of January?
Where will he go, where is he, river of January?

I look at the distant moon and think of you and what you do.
Are you safe and are you warm?
Or are you all alone?
Or are you all alone?

He runs from his thoughts through the night.
He runs from himself and doesn’t know why.
Let him go let him go free river of January
Let him go let him go free river of January

Let him go let him go free river of January
Let him go let him go free river of January
