About Art by Marlene
Marlene is a mixed media artist, art journaler, illustrator, and licensed designer with an unmistakable love affair with color. Born and raised in vibrant South Africa, she soaked up creativity early on, and those bold African influences still dance through her work today. After an adventurous chapter living in Dubai, she followed love to the Netherlands 25 years ago, where she now creates from a charming coastal town alongside her husband, two children, and a well-earned appreciation for the Dutch culture.
Known globally as Art by Marlene, her art is joyful, layered, whimsical, and unapologetically bright. Designed to lift spirits and spark imagination. With over a decade of experience in the craft industry, Marlene designs quirky, expressive artwork that invites others to play, explore, and create. Her signature style blends rich color, movement, contrast, and decorative detail, now brought to life through a mix of analog techniques and hand-drawn digital work.
