DAY 1
Class: Soul Play (click here)
Artist: Tamara Laporte
In Soul Play, we’ll create a beautiful mixed media portrait filled with expressive colour, soulful features and playful doodled details.
This lesson explores the theme of PLAY through intuitive mark-making, childlike doodles, splatters, symbols and decorative elements. Alongside the portrait, you’ll be invited to add stars, hearts, houses, flowers, patterns, butterflies, swirls, dots or any other small details that feel meaningful to you.
The playful doodles are not just decoration; they are a way of loosening up, stepping away from rigid rules and allowing more intuitive parts of yourself to come forward. Through these marks, we’ll explore how play can become a gentle doorway into self-expression, imagination and the quieter language of the soul.
Using mixed media supplies, we’ll build a portrait that feels both tender and magical, then bring it to life with personal symbols, whimsical details and expressive layers. This class is perfect for anyone who wants to combine soulful portraiture with freedom, playfulness and intuitive creative expression.
Class: King Night (click here)
Artist: Eulalia Mejia
In this lesson, we’ll bring to life a cute owl nestled in the heart of night. We’ll be playing with collage, but instead of paper, we’ll use cardboard to add depth and texture to our creations. We’ll add details using acrylic paints, colored pencils and markers. Finally, we’ll mount our piece on canvas board to get a 3D effect.
Class: Abstract Windows of Possibility (click here)
Artist: Laura Horn
Working small is one of my favourite ways to quiet overthinking and open the door to new ideas.
In this lesson, we’ll create a series of small abstract paintings, combining transparent watercolour with mixed media mark making in pastel, pen, and pencil.
You’ll learn how to build stronger focal areas and pleasing compositions while letting marks respond to each other intuitively and allowing unexpected possibilities to emerge.
Class: An Introduction to Mixed Media Art Supplies (click here)
Artist: Tamara Laporte
In this gentle introduction, we’ll explore some of the most commonly used mixed media supplies and how they can work together beautifully on the page. We’ll look at paints, pencils, collage papers, markers, mediums and a few other lovely creative bits, with simple explanations of what they do and how to use them. Perfect for beginners, or anyone wanting to feel more confident and playful with their art materials.

DAY 2
Class: Create an Impressionistic Garden (click here)
Artist: Michelle Nyberg
Create a Joyful, Impressionistic Garden with Acrylic and mixed media
If you would like to paint a joyful, impressionistic garden, then I’ve created a class for you!
There is a freedom in not having to adhere to an exact representation of the world around us that I find very appealing. The thing that I love about painting in an impressionistic way, is that there can be play and experimentation involved along the way, and endless room for expression. In this class I will share my favourite tips, materials and techniques, as I guide you through the process of creating these pieces. The steps and techniques will be simple and clear but there will be loads of room within the framework to create an artwork that is unique to you
Class: Wing It (click here)
Artist: Toni Burt
Create an intuitive mixed media journal spread using graphite face sketching, expressive collage, and layered mark-making. In this lesson, we’ll begin with a loose, soulful portrait sketch, then build around it with torn papers, patterned collage pieces, found words, botanical shapes, and playful painted details. You’ll be encouraged to follow your instincts, allowing the page to unfold organically as you combine drawing, texture, colour, and personal symbolism. This is a gentle, exploratory lesson that celebrates imperfection, imagination, and the quiet magic of letting the creative process lead the way.
Class: Playful Supplies (click here)
Artist: Laly Mille
When I was just a beginner intimidated by academic techniques, the playfulness of mixed media opened a whole new world of art for me. Suddenly it was OK to just play and experiment with my tools and supplies, mix it all up, embrace happy accidents and create something of my own. Years later, this playfulness is still what draws me in, and motivates me to create. I’ve also discovered that an art journal is the best playground you can dream of, because there’s no pressure when you make art just for you.
So, in this fun lesson, I invite you to mindfully gather all your favorite, most playful supplies: the ones that make you smile, the colors that make your heart sing, your favorite materials, tools and even words and imagery that speak to your soul. Then, without any preconceived ideas, let’s unleash all this yummy goodness and see what happens!

DAY 3
Class: Sanctuary Play: A Gentle Mixed Media Botanical (click here)
Artist: Denise Daffara
Sanctuary Play: A Gentle Mixed Media Botanical is a calm, nourishing mixed media session inviting artists into playful exploration through colour, line, and intuitive botanical forms. In this class, Denise guides participants to slow down, notice, and engage with simple gathered elements as a way of returning to presence and creative ease.
Beginning with a gentle still-life arrangement inspired by natural botanicals, participants are led through a relaxed process of layering colour, mark-making, and loose botanical shapes. The focus is not on perfection or realism, but on play as sanctuary – allowing curiosity, softness, and intuition to guide the creative process.
This session embraces playfulness through experimentation, lightness of touch, and permission to respond emotionally rather than technically. Artists will be supported step by step as they create a finished mixed media botanical artwork that reflects their own pace, sensitivity, and inner landscape.
This class is suitable for beginners and experienced artists alike, and is especially welcoming for those who long for a slower, more meaningful way to play with materials and reconnect with their creative selves.
Class: Portrait PLAY (click here)
Artist: Christa Forrest
In this joyful mixed media class, we’ll explore portrait-making through a spirit of play, curiosity and experimentation. Rather than aiming for perfection, we’ll begin by loosely sketching a face and allowing the portrait to gradually come to life through layers of colour, texture, marks and expression.
Using acrylic paint, coloured pencils and other mixed media supplies, we’ll build an expressive portrait step by step, letting intuition and play guide the process. This class is an invitation to loosen up, enjoy your materials, and discover the personality that emerges on the page.
Perfect for anyone who wants to bring more freedom, expression and creative play into their portrait work.
Class: Play, Then Refine: Creating an Intuitive Art Journal (click here)
Artist: Brooke Henry
We’ll begin with a large substrate and give ourselves permission to play — adding paint, marks, and materials as intuition leads the way. The first part of this lesson is all about free-form exploration, followed by gently refining and shaping what we’ve made into a simple journal structure that brings it all together.

DAY 4
Class: Playful Spirit Animal (click here)
Artist: Andrea Gomoll
In this Art Session, we will invite your inner child to a fun play date. We will paint a whimsical fantasy spirit animal using watercolors and colored pencils. We build soft watercolor layers for depth and atmosphere, then refine details and texture with pencils. I show you how to add highlights and sparkle effects that will make your artwork glow and that add a special magical touch.
Class: Permission to Play: A Grid Journal Exercise (click here)
Artist: Jackie Schomburg
In this session, we’ll create a playful grid journal page using watercolor, matte medium, and collage. Working in small squares lowers the pressure of the blank page and makes it easier to experiment, explore, and follow your curiosity. Instead of trying to make one “perfect” piece, you’ll have multiple small spaces to play with color, texture, and layering. This simple structure helps quiet perfectionism, reduce resistance, and bring the focus back to what art making is meant to be: joyful exploration.
Class: The Playful Bird Box: Pattern, Paint & Collage (click here)
Artist: Carrie Smith
In this art session, you’ll create a whimsical Playful Bird Box using patterned paper and your own hand-painted collage elements. I’ll guide you through painting vibrant motifs and assembling them into a layered, story-filled scene. This project is all about play, experimenting with color, pattern, collage, and imagination to bring your tiny world to life.

DAY 5
Class: Frolicking Through the Flowers (click here)
Artist: Tracy Verdugo
In this joyful mixed-media lesson, we step into a world of color, movement, and intuitive mark-making as we create a layered abstract floral piece on watercolor paper. Using a combination of acrylic inks, acrylic paint, oil pastels, collage, pencil, and isopropyl alcohol, we learn how to build rich, expressive surfaces… Letting go of perfection and embracing the unexpected.
Class: Playful Mushrooms (click here)
Artist: Kim Dellow
Let’s get playful with our colours and marks to make some fun, fantasy mushrooms! In this session we will fill paper with colour and marks and turn them into imaginary mushrooms and fun fungi. Using whatever art supplies you have to hand, we will play with shapes to see what mushrooms we can discover.
Class: The Joy of Play: Sketch, Collage & Create (click here)
Artist: Andrea Garvey
Instead of starting with a blank art journal page, we’ll begin by sketching loose contour flowers on individual scraps of paper. These are quick, playful sketches meant to help you loosen your hand and quiet that inner critic.
Once we’ve created a handful of flower sketches, we’ll collage them down into an art journal page, layering pieces together and letting the page come together naturally. I’ll share how I approach composition without overthinking it, and how working in this way can make art journaling feel lighter and more fun.
This class is all about giving yourself permission to play. Sketching on scraps takes away the fear of ruining a page and opens the door to experimentation, curiosity, and movement. If you’ve ever felt stuck, intimidated by a blank page, or just craving a more relaxed way to create, this session is for you.

DAY 6
Class: Wanna Play? (click here)
Artist: Tamara Laporte
In this joyful mixed media lesson, we’ll create an expressive close-up portrait of an adorable dog with a big playful nose and bright, characterful eyes.
Inspired by funny close-up animal photography, we’ll explore how cropping, proportion and expression can make an image feel extra cute, lively and full of personality. Using mixed media supplies, we’ll build up layers of colour, texture and detail while keeping the process light, playful and experimental.
This lesson is all about embracing the theme of PLAY – playing with colour, expressive marks, whimsical proportions and the pure delight of painting a beloved animal friend. You’ll come away with a sweet, characterful journal page that feels warm, joyful and just a little bit silly in the best possible way. 🐾
Class: Happy Accidents (click here)
Artist: Kaisa Hart
In this fun art journaling session, we explore what happens when we stop trying to fix our pages and instead allow unexpected moments to guide us! Rather than correcting or covering up “mistakes”, we treat them as starting points and respond to what’s already there.
You’ll see how to deliberately create happy accidents through playful use of tools and materials, and then work with them intuitively. Instead of controlling the outcome, you’ll practise noticing what appears and letting the page unfold in response.
This lesson is about building trust in the creative process, loosening perfectionism, and discovering how much more alive a page can feel when you stop trying to manage the result.
Class: Pattern Play Made Easy (click here)
Artist: Art by Marlene
Pattern play made easy is a mixed media system that Marlene developed for herself more than a decade ago to increase the freedom of play and increase the chance of happy accidents in her art. It is a fool proof system of creating a decorative, colorful and playful artwork. With layering, mark making, using the unique characteristics of the different mediums, she will take you along on her creative journey. Get ready to mix watercolors, mark making tools, pastels, stencils, acrylic markers, pencils and more.
Class: Draft: Rehearsing Without Outcome (click here)
Artist: Marieke Blokland
DRAFT: Rehearsing Without Outcome approaches play as practice rather than finished work.
In this session, you’ll explore making without the pressure to create meaning or arrive at a result. Instead of producing something final, we rehearse without an end goal.
Materials, gestures, and forms become a temporary testing ground: nothing has to be beautiful, finished, or true. Through a series of simple exercises, you’ll experience new ways of relating to your work.
This is a light, calm, and thoughtful session about permission, practice, and allowing things to exist before they carry weight.

DAY 7
Class: Deer Heart (click here)
Artist: Melanie Rivers
In Deer Heart, we explore gentleness as a form of strength. Using mixed media techniques with collage, texture, and acrylic paint, we’ll create a portrait inspired by the deer — a symbol of sensitivity, awareness, and quiet presence. This lesson invites a tender approach to mark-making and encourages listening to what feels supportive in the moment.
Class: Paper & Play (click here)
Artist: Holly McLaughlin
Paper & Play is a mixed media lesson rooted in playful exploration and material curiosity. In this class, we begin by gathering a variety of papers and transforming them through personal mark-making and a limited color palette, allowing experimentation and discovery to guide the process rather than a fixed outcome.
From there, we’ll play with assembling a small, non-representational abstract collage, focusing on how shapes, layers, and textures interact as they come together. The process emphasizes responding to what emerges, inviting a sense of openness and freedom into the work.
As the composition develops, we’ll begin making more intentional decisions about balance, repetition, and visual relationships within the piece. Through this process, the collage evolves from playful experimentation toward a cohesive and thoughtfully resolved work of art.
This lesson encourages artists to approach collage as a space for play, curiosity, and risk-taking, while still arriving at a final piece that feels intentional and complete.
Class: Playing With Doodles (click here)
Artist: Dyan Reaveley
In this playful and relaxing session, we’ll begin with a simple dot grid page and turn it into a lively, colourful piece filled with doodles, pattern, and imagination. Starting with easy, intuitive marks, we’ll let the page gradually come to life as we build up layers of repeating shapes, playful details, and vibrant colour.
This class is all about giving yourself permission to explore without pressure. The gentle repetition of doodling can feel wonderfully calming and grounding, while the addition of colour brings energy, joy, and a sense of creative freedom. As the page fills and evolves, you may find yourself slipping into that lovely space where play, mindfulness, and self-expression meet.
Come and enjoy a process that is both therapeutic and fun, and discover how something as simple as doodling on a dot grid can open the door to a surprisingly rich and satisfying creative experience.

DAY 8
Class: Messenger of Joy (click here)
Artist: Ida Andersen Lang
In this lesson, we draw and paint a blue tit — a small, playful bird — in a loose, natural way using graphite, watercolor, and colored pencil. We work with a relaxed approach to drawing and painting, allowing the process to stay calm, open, and exploratory. This is an invitation to slow down, enjoy the moment, and reconnect with simple beauty — a gentle messenger of joy and play.
Class: Playing with Alcohol Markers (click here)
Artist: Effy Wild
Join Effy Wild for a vibrant, hands-on session dedicated to the joy of alcohol markers! In this lesson, we’ll dive into the fluid and colorful world of markers to see how they can bring a sense of play and spontaneity to your art. We will explore blending, layering, and experimental mark-making, focusing on the process and the pure delight of creating with these versatile tools.
Class: Playing with Gouache & Oil Pastel (click here)
Artist: Tamara Łuć
In this colourful mixed media class, we’ll explore the playful possibilities of combining acrylic gouache with oil pastels. I’ll guide you through a loose, expressive approach to layering, blending and mark-making, showing how these two gorgeous materials can interact in surprising and satisfying ways.
Together, we’ll experiment with colour, texture, contrast and movement, allowing the composition to unfold intuitively rather than trying to control every outcome. This class is all about curiosity, discovery and letting the materials lead the way.
Perfect for anyone who wants to loosen up, explore bold colour combinations, and create playful abstract or semi-abstract compositions with rich, tactile layers.

DAY 9
Class: Permission to Play: A Mixed Media Portrait Without the Pressure (click here)
Artist: Jenny Manno
In this session, we’ll use portraiture as a framework for play, loosening expectations while still working within the familiar structure of the face. Using Strathmore tan toned mixed media paper, we’ll explore graphite, watercolor, chalk pastel, and black and white charcoal pencils to build expressive, layered portraits that prioritize feeling over perfection.
We’ll begin with intuitive graphite marks to establish gesture and movement, allowing erasing, smudging, and re-drawing to become part of the process. Watercolor will be used freely and imperfectly, embracing transparency and unexpected color shifts. Chalk pastel and charcoal pencils will add contrast, texture, and emotional depth, inviting artists to respond to the page rather than control it.
This class is designed to help artists let go of tight expectations, quiet the inner critic, and rediscover the joy of simply playing with materials. Perfect for artists who love portrait work but feel stuck, intimidated, or overly focused on getting it right, this session offers tools to loosen up, trust your instincts, and allow the portrait to evolve naturally.
Class: Freedom Cards: Play without Pressure (click here)
Artist: Birgit Koopsen-Bernstein
In this playful mixed media workshop, we take the pressure off creating. You’ll start with a large sheet of cardboard, intuitively painting, layering colors and making marks – no plan, no outcome in mind. Then we cut this painted surface into small 10×10 cm pieces: Freedom Cards.
Each card becomes an invitation. An invitation to respond to color, shape and texture. To play with pens, pencils, markers, collage etc. And to follow curiosity instead of expectations.
These cards don’t have to be precious. If it doesn’t work out, nothing is lost. And if something beautiful appears… it’s a bonus.
Freedom Cards give you permission to experiment, to loosen control and to rediscover the joy of creating just for the sake of it. No right or wrong. No pressure. Just play.
Class: Layers of Play (click here)
Artist: Jenny Grant
In “Layers of Play”, Jenny invites you to explore her favourite mixed media process. Through a playful, relaxed, and slightly messy process, you’ll watch the painting emerge from the layers of paint. Jenny will guide you step-by-step, encouraging you to embrace the “ugly phase” and keep going until you discover the soul of your painting. This class is all about enjoying the journey and creating in a way that feels fun and freeing.
