Layered Inky Backgrounds
Unleash your creativity in this playful and dynamic class where you’ll explore the magic of layering with Dylusions inks and shimmer sprays. We’ll start by creating a rich, vibrant background full of texture and depth using bold colours and intuitive mark-making. You’ll learn how to combine spraying, stencilling, and one of my all-time favourite techniques—ghosting—to lift and reveal beautiful, soft patterns beneath the surface.
Ghosting allows you to ‘erase’ parts of your spray layers through stencils, adding dimension and intrigue to your background. This technique brings a touch of mystery and makes your piece feel delightfully layered and alive. Once your background is complete, we’ll collage and assemble quirky, expressive characters or figures, enhancing your page with hand-drawn doodles, stitched borders, or word art to bring humour and personality into your work.

About Dyan Reaveley
Dyan Reaveley is a signature designer for Ranger Ink and creator of Dylusions products. She is a Yorkshire born and bred Brit, who spends most of her time on the opposite side of the pond spreading her passion for art journalling, while teaching and demonstrating how to use her Dylusions products & the importance of creating art for ourselves. Her hobbies consist of art journaling, Northern Soul, knitting, dress-making and tea drinking. If she’s not doing one she’s doing the other.
Dyan struggles with mental illness, which makes life interesting to say the least. There is no shame in having mental illness, nor is talking about it!! She hopes that by speaking up about it, it will give hope and inspiration to others in the same position.
