Freedom Cards: Play without Pressure
In this playful mixed media workshop, we take the pressure off creating. You’ll start with a large sheet of cardboard, intuitively painting, layering colors and making marks – no plan, no outcome in mind. Then we cut this painted surface into small 10×10 cm pieces: Freedom Cards.
Each card becomes an invitation. An invitation to respond to color, shape and texture. To play with pens, pencils, markers, collage etc. And to follow curiosity instead of expectations.
These cards don’t have to be precious. If it doesn’t work out, nothing is lost. And if something beautiful appears… it’s a bonus.
Freedom Cards give you permission to experiment, to loosen control and to rediscover the joy of creating just for the sake of it. No right or wrong. No pressure. Just play.

Over 6 weeks I’ll guide you through the techniques I use most in my own studio – from layering and color mastery to botanicals, transfers, and creative ways to use your finished prints. Don’t just pull random layers – learn how to print with confidence and intention.
Image Transfers Unraveled
Image Transfers Unraveled – your gateway to creating stunning image transfers on the gel plate! Take your gel printing skills to a higher level. Learning how to create image transfers opens up a whole new world of possibilities, wether you want to use them in your art journaling, travel journals, in your scrapbook, as backgrounds for your cards, as collage material or as stand alone pieces of art! In this workshop you will learn how to create magazine image transfers, the Stāzon technique (which makes image transfer printing a bit easier) and laser print transfers. You will also learn the best way to find the right combination of paint and magazines, mistakes you can make and how not to make them, how to fix little imperfections or how to use not so perfect prints, how to color your images with a variety of products and more.
About Birgit Koopsen-Bernstein
Birgit is a printmaker and mixed media artist who loves color and experimenting with paints and inks and all kinds of mediums. Her art is mostly bright and colorful, with a lot of layers. She loves color in all aspects of life, art and society. Her favorite art tool is a gel plate and her favorite mediums are acrylic paint, PanPastel, watercolor pencils and paint markers. She loves printing with found objects, “trash” and botanicals and image transfer printing is one of her favorite techniques.
Birgit is a Lead Brand Ambassador for Gelli Arts® and creates reels and tutorial videos for Gelli Arts’ social media. She had the honor to be a guest teacher on many online events like Creative JumpStart, Wanderlust, Life Book, Gratitude Junk Journal and more. She also offers workshops in her own online school. Birgit started doing (live) online classes during covid but before that she had the privilege to travel the world teaching in person classes from the US and Canada to India and Australia and almost every western European country.
Birgit lives in the Netherlands in a little village called Winsum which is everything you expect from a Dutch village. It has canals, 2 windmills, 3 churches and is surrounded by green fields with sheep, cows and horses and even tulip fields are nearby. She is a happy wife (together with the love of her life since 1986), proud mom of 3 and an even prouder grandma of the most adorable grandson in the world. She is her cat’s maid and her horses’ servant and she is good with that!
