I Can See Clearly Now

In this MMM Session, you are invited to play with portrait painting in a free and intuitive way, letting go of perfection and expectations. Using a reference photo as a loose starting point, we will create an abstract acrylic portrait that slowly emerges through shapes, light, and shadow.

Instead of focusing on facial features like eyes, nose, or mouth, we will train ourselves to see differently: only light and shadow, positive and negative space. We begin by blocking in large areas of color and exploring negative space, allowing overlapping shapes to interact and surprise us. Step by step, the portrait evolves organically through layered color patches, unexpected connections, and playful experimentation.

Only at the very end do we introduce simple lines to suggest form and rhythm — not to define, but to enhance what has already appeared on the canvas. This session is about trusting the process, loosening control, and discovering how much can happen when we allow ourselves to play. The result is a lively, expressive portrait full of movement, depth, and beautiful, imperfect effects — a reminder that play is often where the magic begins.

About Kerstin Svensson

Kerstin Svensson is a German artist whose abstract-figurative paintings explore the emotional landscapes of being human. With a background in design, costume, and theatre, her work is deeply informed by storytelling, intuition, and layered visual language. She approaches painting as a process of inner listening, allowing figures, faces, and textures to emerge organically rather than following a fixed plan. Her art reflects themes of identity, connection, and vulnerability, often balancing strength and fragility within the same image. Through marks, color, and repetition, Svensson creates spaces where viewers are invited to pause, feel, and recognize parts of themselves.

Based in northern Germany, she exhibits her work nationally and internationally and is an active member of professional artist associations. Alongside her studio practice, she shares her experience through workshops and online offerings, encouraging others to trust their creative voice and embrace imperfection as part of the process. For Svensson, art is not about answers, but about presence — a quiet dialogue between the inner world and what wants to be seen.
