Class: The Hidden Folk with Katrina Koltes (click here)

In this intuitive watercolor lesson, we’ll open our hearts and sketchbooks to the gentle presence of the hidden folk.

Those tiny, wild guardians who dwell in the whispering leaves, the mossy stones, and the enchanted corners of the natural world.

As we tune into the subtle magic of nature and use our playful imagination, we begin to shift our perception… seeing not just with our eyes, but with our inner senses, and with our heart. The veil begins to lift, and the enchanted realms can reveal themselves. We will allow these nature beings to guide us, inviting them to emerge intuitively through color, intuition, and story. This practice isn’t about getting it “right,” but about remembering how to see… and to believe in wonder again.

This lesson is also a call to the storyteller within: the part of us that once spoke to trees, followed tiny footsteps in the mud, and listened for laughter in the breeze. As we paint, we reawaken that childlike magic, and open the portal to a world where anything is possible.

Class: A Little Tale with Toni Burt (click here)

In this gentle and imaginative class, we’ll create a magical scene featuring a dreamy girl, a whimsical bird, and a delicate cage – each element a symbol open to your own interpretation: freedom, longing, transformation, or the magic of imagination itself.

We’ll begin with graphite sketching to lay down the foundations of our girl and her feathered companion, focusing on soft lines and expressive features. From there, we’ll bring our scene to life with delicate watercolours, adding light, shadow, and mood. Finally, we’ll infuse the piece with texture and story using collage – layering papers, patterns, or even meaningful words to add depth and enchantment.

This project is a tender invitation to play with symbolism, explore a gentle mixed-media process, and let your intuition guide you as your characters come alive on the page.

In this bold and magical taster session for A Year of Magic & Fairy Tales, we’ll bring to life a fierce, powerful, and awe-inspiring dragon using watercolour, acrylic inks, pencils and markers.   I’ll guide you through building rich textures, luminous layers, and dramatic contrast to create a creature that feels both ancient and alive. Inspired by stories like Pete’s Dragon, How to Train Your Dragon, and fantasy novels where dragons are loyal protectors, this class invites you to channel courage, strength, and creative fire through your brush.

Class: Magical Forest Fairy Door with Lucy Brydon (click here)

We are going to be painting a magical forest fairy door. I am always drawn to those shapes in trees that suggest that they might be hiding a secret door in them, that leads to the otherworld (the fairy realm as it is known in Scottish folklore). Get ready to step inside the world of fairy!

Class: Story Cards with Laly Mille (click here)

Symbols have a magic of their own, and every fairytale contains a unique combination that speaks to the soul in mysterious ways. A pumpkin and a dress immediately evoke Cinderella; an apple, a knife and a heart would be Snow White. Each tale also has a myriad of different versions, spread across time and lands. Symbols are a universal, yet highly personal language that weaves itself into our stories, our lives and especially our art. In this project, I invite you to go on a quest and gather your own personal “symbology”, then create a very special card deck that’s unique to you. By pulling a card or combining several, you’ll be able to use your deck to spark inspiration and add deeper meaning to your creations. What if you imagined your own fairytale?

DAY 3

Class: Painting the Selkie with Annie Hamman (click here)

In this class, we’ll dive into the hauntingly beautiful world of the Selkie – a mythical creature from Irish and Scottish folklore who lives as a seal in the sea but can shed her skin to become a woman on land. Selkie stories are full of longing, transformation, and the pull between two worlds – themes we’ll gently weave into our artwork.

Using a limited earthy-toned palette, we’ll paint our Selkie on 300 lb paper with acrylics, allowing texture, softness, and mood to guide us.
