“Life Book – a celebration and honouring of self!” is an EPIC year long art workshop which will begin on January 1st 2013! With monthly mixed media lessons by Tam and a wide variety of additional lessons and other activities by another 21 contributing mixed media art teachers, you will be chronicling your development and growth of 2013 in many mixed media pages which by the end of the year you will combine into a journal (or Life Book). You will be part of a thriving, buzzing and creative community of artsy people for a whole year. The course will be overflowing with lessons, exercises and activities to keep you inspired and motivated. Additionally you will also be challenged to include self celebration/ honouring/ healing exercises into your journal pages which are bound to make you feel good about yourself! Who can sign up to Life Book? I haven’t ever done any art, can I join too?
Darling, OF COURSE YOU CAN! Life Book is for EVERYONE! :) Sure, the course will be easier if you’ve done some art already, but don’t deprive yourself of learning the awesome magic making and healing power of art just because you haven’t done it before! The course is suitable for beginners/ intermediates and masters alike! Everyone will get something different out of the course. The course is run in an open, supportive, inclusive and encouraging environment where you can play, experiment, make a ‘fool’ of yourself and start all over again! There will be no judgement, we will only love you and encourage you! :) All lessons are conducted in such a way that you can follow the tutors step by step, so you can do what they do, and if that bores you, then you can go totally off the rails and do your own thing inspired by their lesson! Sounds good? :) You are loved and welcome here, no matter what skill level, for serious! :D xoxoox
What do I need and need to know in order to join Life Book 2013?
- You will need a highspeed internet connection to be able to download the videos. If you have a slower connection you can stream the videos online and/ or learn through the PDFs, but the best option is to have a highspeed internet connection.
- It will be helpful to have a basic understanding of IT, like reading emails, navigating sites like Facebook and flickr etc. If you’re having trouble with some IT related stuff some help can be given, but in depth IT guidance cannot be given.
- If you are planning on downloading and keeping the videos you will need to make sure you have “a few” gigabites available. Each video can be between 200 – 900 MB in size. Multiply that by at least 32 lessons and you can see you’ll need quite a bit of space! Unfortunately I am unable to offer the entire class on DVD/ CD.
- With regards to the personal development exercises: please understand that none of the art teachers on the course are qualified psychotherapists or psychologists. Therefore if you are prone to depression or if you think you might be triggered through one of the healing exercises it’s important to me that you only embark upon the healing exercises knowing that you have an adequate support system around in the form of friends, family and/or a therapist to help you deal with painful stuff should this happen. Though there will be an ‘emotional support thread’ on the course available, the teachers and I are not able to provide you with in depth emotional support (as much as we would want to!)
- The course is not based on any specific religious faith but may refer to and base lessons on and around ‘non-dual’ teachings. The theme focus of the course is ‘self-development/ self-love/ self-healing’. We may refer to concepts such as: “The Goddess in You”, “Mandalas”, “Crystals”, “Yoga”, “Sacred Ritual” etc.

Tam, I’m a mosaic artist with a mixed media bent that would love to work on the Life Book, but am wondering how I might be able to do this in my artform? (I can draw very rudimentary shapes and figures…drawing and painting isn’t my forte.) Thoughts? Rachel
Hi Rachel, the course introduces students to all sorts of new materials. You would be encouraged to do the course with the suggested materials (though you will be free to adapt as you see fit, of course!). If you solely want to stick with your mosaic materials, I’m not sure the course would be right for you, however, if you’re up for trying out new materials and seeing where you can fit your mosaic work in then it would be perfect for you! :)
I just stumbled upon your site and the LifeBook2012. Cant wait to sign up for 2013. Will it be the same course, or a new one? If it is different, would it be possible to still sign up for 2012 and play catch up?

Hi Gina, there will be 4 package options, the price for the basic option is likely to be £60 GBP and includes Life Book only. The other options will include some extra courses. There is also an option in which you purchase my LB2012 lessons plus LB2013. Prices to be confirmed. :)

Hi Tam, don’t know a lot about this but wondered how much time is needed, each month, to put into the course? As we all know it is hard with everyday life to make time for the “fun” stuff :) What is actually involved… this is all very new to me any advice would be great. Thanks heaps Alison
Hi Alison! It kinda depends on how much time you want to devote to it, but each lesson each week will last between 30mins to 2 hours depending on the teacher/ topic (though the filler weeks will not be much longer than 30 minutes.) So I’d say, if you have about 3/4 hours a week available it would be enough. :) Hope this helps! Love, Tam x

Hi, Tam! I’m just a bit curious about the LB2013 Extreme….how many lessons did you teach in LB2012? I had intended to participate in LB2012…but, honestly, I become so overwhelmed w/ the idea of having something each wk for the entire year….as I work slowly & tend to easily fall quite behind…that I ended up not signing up at all. This time around, I’ve been thinking…especially, for the value….just going into this thinking of partaking in the bits that speak most to me, instead of overwhelming myself w/ thoughts of trying to take it all in w/in the time frame given. Who says I MUST do it all, right?! (And that’s not to mean that, of course, I wouldn’t want to do it all! ☺) Does that even make any sense?? Plus, I’m LOVIN’ the line up of artist teachers you are including!!!

Hi Heather! I taught 12 main lessons and 1 or 2 smaller ones on LB2012. Yes, joining and just doing the bits that speak to you, is how a lot of LB2012-ers did it! :) It seems that even though it’s unlikely you can do all the lessons (although some managed, wow!), being part of the course continued to motivate and inspire people nonetheless! :) Indeed, you don’t have to do ALL of it! Hi Evie! The course is designed in such a way that you’ll be creating your pages on single pages which you can bind into a book at the end of the year. This is not a requirement though, so if you prefer to work in a journal/ sketchbook; that’s perfectly awesome, just understand that you can’t then bind those pages into a book as you already have one! :) Not a problem though, everyone can take the lessons and do with them as they please, ie: use them as they suit you. Your question regarding all ages: as we are doing healing/ personal development exercises I would recommend that anyone below the age of 16 does the course under the guidance of an adult just in case painful stuff comes up for the younger ones. However, the healing/ personal development stuff is all very gentle so I don’t expect it to be too difficult for younger ones, but just want to make sure that they’re ok. Of course, they could also simply and only focus on the art techniques (as can the adults). :) Hope this helps! Love, Tam x

Hello Tam. I just love your stuff, and am seriously considering signing up, but I am wondering if it would be suitable for me, as I have NO SKILLS.. I have never done scrapbooking, I quilt, and I can copy things, but have never created anything original.. Would I be able to keep up with all you talented people? Hi Tam, I was thinking of doing the 3 installment plan option but was wondering how big the gaps of time are between each payment? I was also curious as to what exactly I get for purchasing that option, is it exclusively the 2013 life book or does it also include another class as well (such as with the premium course how it is both the 2013 life book as well as an additional course by you). Hi Lynda! The gaps are 4 months. When you sign up you pay your first installment, then in another 4 months time the second and then the 3rd in another 4 months after that. The payment plan applies to LB2013 alone. :) Hope this makes sense! Love, Tam x
It would be lovely to bind my own book so I think I will probably go for individual paper, just thought journal/sketchbook would be a good alternative if I can’t source the paper….will figure that one out nearer the time, so thank you for advice on that (: Yes can completely understand about the age, I will be 19/20 whilst Life Book 2013 is going (felt like a bit of a youngster ha) and am currently on my gap year so this course is perfect. It gives me something to keep creative, plus the structure helps (: I like the idea of the healing mixed with art. Thank you for all the info/ advice. I look forward to taking part :D

Hi sweetness! Yes, totally ok to upgrade, just email me about it. My 2013 lessons will be fresh new lessons (no repeats from 2012), however I will – likely – use similar techniques here and there as I only know ‘so much’ if you see what I mean. But each project will be different and there will be some new techniques, but there will def also be repeat techniques. :) Hope this helps you decide. xoxo Tam
