“Life Book, a celebration and honouring of YOU”
is a year-long mixed media art class
organised by Tamara Laporte from Willowing Arts.

Tam is joined by 25 incredible art teachers who are all gearing up to share their mixed media techniques, tips and tricks with YOU! Themed around self-development and healing, you’ll be creating several loose mixed media art journal pages per month which by the end of the year you will bind into a glorious journal (a Life Book)! You will have a wonderful keepsake that you can treasure for the rest of your life!

Or join the Life Book 2015 Tam Edition here.

Hello dear one! My name is Tam! Thank you for stopping by and checking out the Life Book information. Life Book is SUCH a precious project to me, I pour my be-end all into this baby. Let me tell you all about it. It’s kinda an offer you can’t refuse I’m sure! Nearly 2800 wonderful people joined us on Life Book last year (and over 5000+ people have joined it since its inception in 2012!), it’s been an incredible experience (it’s still going as we speak).

People have learned so much! They’ve created such beautiful art work and they’ve been so brave when digging deeper into some of the personal development exercises! I receive uplifting emails almost daily from participants telling me how Life Book has enriched their lives. I’m so honoured and blessed to be the host of this fantabulous course each year. I count my lucky stars every day!

In a nutshell, this is the Incredible Life Book offer:

◙ 9 In depth Mixed Media Art Lessons by me: Tam
◙ 25 In depth Mixed Media Art Lessons by Spectacular Guest Teachers
(see below who the 2015 guest teachers are)

◙ 18 (Smaller) Bonus Activities like: extra PDF prompts & step by steps/ artist interviews/ ATC swaps/ give aways/ audio meditations/ writing prompts etc by Tam & Guest Teachers

Watch the promotional video for information and a dose of ‘happy’ ;)

So basically you continue to receive creative inspiration and prompts WEEKLY (without fail, every week there is something for you to enjoy) and all that for ONLY £75 GBP or approx $120 USD (the course content is valued at over $1000+ so you get a year filled with incredible lessons and inspiration for only a fraction of the retail price, is that awesome or awesome?) There is no catch here, just me and a bunch of awesome other artists wanting you to have access to a ‘library’ of inspiring & educational art lessons and personal development tools that help you enrich your life. Simple as that. :) I personally believe that practising self care through art & self enquiry creates happier people and happier people equals a better world (happy people are nice to others and spread light and goodness! and sometimes: muffins!!!). :-)

alisa bio picI’m so excited about all the fantastic contributions this year! We have a range of truly incredible artists contributing their wisdom, light, beauty and artistic talent to the course, people like Alisa Burke, Jessica Swift, Flora Bowley and Donna Downey are only a handful of the amazing teachers contributing to Life Book 2015! (Scroll down to read about the entire teacher line up for LB2015!!)

Isn’t this just awesome? Of course, I am totally biased, but if I came across an offer like this myself: I would jump at the chance! Not only because you can download all the videos which means that even if you fall behind or if you can’t participate for a while, you can revisit the lessons at your own time in the future should you want to. :)

Exciting right? :-) Of course, I am totally biased, but if I came across an offer like this myself: I would jump at the chance! I get daily letters from Life Book participants letting me know Life Book has enriched their lives. I feel so blessed and lucky to be able to provide a program that truly helps people feel better about themselves!

But let me stop gushing and let some of the Life Book students have their say.

About Tam’s Life Book Lessons
Tam provides completely new (unseen) lessons to Life Book each year (there are no repeat lessons apart from the binding videos posted in December. Though the lessons are new each year, techniques that were covered in previous years may be repeated. Tam’s Life Book lessons become available in a self study group once the Life Book year is finished.

Life Book 2015 Yearly Class Schedule

Download the yearly class schedule by clicking on the image or link below. Please note that we will all work towards sticking to the schedule though please allow for some wriggle room in that sometimes unexpected things happen in life and some classes might be changed last minute (this doesn’t happen much at all, but please assume this can happen).

Basic Supply List
Click on the image to download the basic suggested supply list for the course. Please be aware, this is a suggested list that will help you get started, but you won’t necessarily need to buy every single thing on the list, certain materials can easily be replaced with other ones that you already have. So if you are on a budget, don’t go crazy buying all the supplies. Throughout the year different teachers may introduce you to new materials as well. It’s never compulsory to buy all the materials used on the course (of course not!), I’d say: see how you go throughout the year and if you see a teacher use something you really really love, then go buy it, but you don’t need to ‘arm’ yourself with a house full of supplies you may not continue using in the future!

Who can sign up to Life Book? I haven’t ever done any art, can I join too?

Darling, OF COURSE YOU CAN! Life Book is for EVERYONE! :) Sure, the course will be easier if you’ve done some art already, but don’t deprive yourself of learning the awesome magic making and healing power of art just because you haven’t done it before! The course is suitable for beginners/ intermediates and masters alike! Everyone will get something different out of the course. The course is run in an open, supportive, inclusive and encouraging environment where you can play, experiment, make a ‘fool’ of yourself and start all over again! There will be no judgement, we will only love you and encourage you! :) All lessons are conducted in such a way that you can follow the tutors step by step, so you can do what they do, and if that bores you, then you can go totally off the rails and do your own thing inspired by their lesson! Sounds good? :) You are loved and welcome here, no matter what skill level, for serious! :D xoxoox

Things to consider before joining:

Life Book is all about “inclusivity” and welcomes every person no matter gender, ethnicity, religious background or age. That said, the course might not be suitable for you if:

  • You are under the age of 18 – it is recommended that children and teenagers do the course with a parent or custodian mainly because of the personal development element of the course. (Many parents have done the course with their teenage or younger children, if you have questions about this pls email us on willowing.arts AT
  • If you are bothered by references that are more ‘new age/ “woo woo”‘ in nature. We may refer to concepts such ‘the inner goddess’, ‘the muse’, “Intuition”, “Shamanism”, “Mandalas”, “Crystals”, “Yoga”, “Sacred Ritual”, “Being Here Now” etc.
  • If you strongly do not enjoy or if you do not want to be exposed to personal development/ healing concepts (though these sections can be skipped)
  • If you are hoping that each lesson will present a completely new technique and that no technique is ever repeated. Each lesson is fresh and newly created by each teacher, BUT we all work in the same field, so we will likely overlap with some techniques here and there. That doesn’t mean you don’t learn anything new because we all do something different with each technique, each teacher has their own unique style and creates amazing work, just be aware that some techniques may overlap or that some styles are similar.
  • If you hope that Life Book can be the sole treatment for an existing mental health issue (Life Book can be used in support of a therapy treatment, but should not be used as the only treatment for a mental health issue.)
  • If you don’t like drawing faces/ portraits. Though all lessons are different and many lessons will not include drawing/ painting a face, expect approx 30-40% of the lessons to include a face of some sorts (either attached to a little whimsical body or as an actual portrait by itself). The rest of the lessons can include: abstract shapes, natural shapes (flowers/ trees etc), animals, landscapes including houses etc.

What do I need and need to know in order to join Life Book 2015?

  • You will need a highspeed internet connection to be able to download and the videos. If you have a slower connection you can stream the videos online and/ or learn through the PDFs, but the best option is to have a highspeed internet connection.
  • It will be helpful to have a basic understanding of IT, like reading emails, navigating sites like Facebook and flickr etc. If you’re having trouble with some IT related stuff some help can be given, but in depth IT guidance cannot be given.
  • If you are planning on downloading and keeping the videos you will need to make sure you have “a few” gigabites available. Each video can be between 200 – 900 MB in size. Multiply that by at least 32 lessons and you can see you’ll need quite a bit of space! I recommend you get an additional external hard drive on to which you can download all the lessons. Unfortunately I am unable to offer the entire class on DVD/ CD (it would be at least 20 DVDs).
  • Be aware that you will have access to the Life Book content until the end of January 2016, so make sure you download what you want throughout the year, DON’T WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE, because the content will really disappear after Jan 31st 2016.
  • With regards to the personal development exercises: please understand that none of the art teachers on the course are qualified psychotherapists or psychologists. Therefore if you are prone to depression or if you think you might be triggered through one of the healing exercises it’s important that you only embark upon the healing exercises knowing that you have an adequate support system around in the form of friends, family and/or a therapist to help you deal with painful stuff should this happen. Though there will be an ’emotional support thread’ on the course available, the teachers and I are not able to provide you with in depth emotional support (as much as we would want to!)
  • This course should not be considered a substitute or a replacement for face-to-face therapy. It is designed to help and encourage the participant to love and accept themselves more fully through personal development exercises and connecting with their inner creative nature. Participants who suffer from any kind of mental health issues are advised to seek the help from mental health professionals. Life Book can be used as a supplement to any therapy treatment, but should not be used as a main form of treatment for any mental health issues.
  • The course is not based on any specific religious faith but may refer to and base lessons on and around ‘non-dual’ teachings. The course is inclusive of every human being regardless of their chosen faith (or non-faith). The theme focus of the course is ‘self-development/ self-love/ self-healing’. We may refer to concepts such as: “The Goddess in You”, “Intuition”, “Shamanism”, “Mandalas”, “Crystals”, “Yoga”, “Sacred Ritual”, “Being Here Now” etc.

More Praise for Life Book!
I always thought my creativity and abilities would not be enough to paint anything worthwile. I started life book, learned so many differend methods and developed so much personally and artistically that I now think about starting a creative business! When I really look at my life I always wanted to do something creative and didn´t have the guts… I thought I was not skilled, creative, good enough even to try! Life book changed that feeling and my art skilles about 180°! (Thank you, Tam!!!) It makes you stretch out of your comfort zone and makes you reach for the stars – and you will reach at least the moon! :-)” – Leila Freiburg (a.k.a.”Amy”); Germany

An amazing course that spans a whole year, and has lessons from some amazing artists that have really inspired me to try new techniques.– Monique Green, Surrey (UK)

It’s a fantastic self-paced course with world wide, well known instructors teaching methods in a way that anyone can create great works of art. The course also helps to expand the mind opening the door to creative thoughts that have been dormant in some and locked in others. With visual instruction along with readable content and available help 24/7 makes it THE online art course to enroll in! “ Connie Foster Bissell – Marshfield, MO USA

Life Book is a wonderful, Year Long, Art course. With new lessons by different teachers each week. It’s fun, and challenging, and it’s full of amazing techniques, I’m learning about new to me mediums, which is great! And there’s a personal development aspect too, which I love. There is so much to it and it’s very reasonably priced …. it’s exciting and wonderful! And at the end of the year all these pieces of art you created will be bound into an amazing book. You get lots of support and encouragement… and help when you need it. And you work at your own pace. “WOW” ….I really LOVE Life Book! ;) “

Phoebe Thibault-Sherrard, in Kitchener, Ontario

I am taking this amazing year long art class. It has so much information to learn and is so incredible. I can’t recommend it enough!” Stacie Spencer,New Market, Maryland USA

There’s this GREAT class called Lifebook, available on-line! The cost is affordable…and it is so nice to have something to look forward to each week. You can work at your own pace, you can download information if you choose. The teachers are varied in style & lessons vary in content so there really is something for everyone. I’ve LOVED being part of this experience!” Patricia Bleecher, MA., USA

Hi – Can’t wait for this to begin, I’ve heard so many great things about this class!! Though I’ve been making cards for over 10 years I’m new to mixed media. I can’t wait to get started and will be experimenting with mixed media techniques over the next few months.

I hope this is the right place to enter to win a spot. Am I the first one? These past few years have been hard on me. I am a single mom of a teenager. She has gone thought a lot of emotional issues and issues with staying focused in school. It actually has given me some silver highlights. I want to be able to work on something that can take my mind off the troubles. Something that is for me. I have a room that I created to be able to do something for myself but haven’t been able to use it and it ends up being storage. Money is super tight and I would love to win one spot for the 2015 Life Book. Thank you again!

The teachers are amazing and the support from everyone in the Facebook group is so meaningful. The best experience of my just beginning artistic journey!

After recently discovering mixed media ideas, I realized that I am being lifted up with new life. I spend most time alone (my husband works 3rd shift) and have yearned for something that would give life to my evenings and these art techniques have done just that. I finally look forward to evenings. I fall into the shadows of a true artist, my sister, she is quite acclaimed in her art accomplishments, yet as I produce my own art, I am proud to show her what I have produced. I have worked through many different challenges in my life and now at 62, I think it is time to put my life’s experiences on paper. Joining the Life Book classes would be the icing on the cake!

Hi Tamara, I came to art journalling late in life. I have always been arty but was ignorant about this lovely art form. I spotted a couple of your classes and enrolled in them and I was hooked. I have filled up a couple of art journals and I have on my walls a couple of gypsy lady canvasses as well as one of your summer ladies. I have tried many different styles but keep coming back to your colourful free and from the heart artwork. I have followed life book for the last cole of years and it would be my hearts desire to enrol in one. I can’t imagine what a years worth of art journalling and mixed media would be like, it sounds like arty heaven.

on my birthday last year, my friends Bea and Yvette fanned my little spark of light enough that I came to your page and subscribed to the free classes and asked all my people for art supplies for my self and talked about the 2014 Life Book as a possibility for me. I have still not painted with you, though I did go with a friend as a guest to a class in my city. it didn’t hurt me :) Not very scary so I wanted to tell you I am still here watching and reading and my little spark is still burning, thank you. Not sure I would be worthy of a space because they are SO precious ….. and I AM still here..

I am a volunteer teacher in Nepal helping teach marginalized women in Nepal and I can not afford Lifebook. I know if I am selected I will be able to share my new knowledge in art with the women and children in Nepal that do not have access to computers and online learning. I am sharing my passion for art with them. Please consider me for a free spot in this amazing class. May God bless you and guide your creative journey.

Newly retired, I wanted open a new part of my life that had been so buried while making a living. When I began to look online at what I would like to pursue, I was amazed (I mean, it should have figured, right?) to find that those whose art really captured me are amassed in this big, beautiful LifeBook project. Lucky us out there who want to be part of such an amazing array of talent. I would be honored to be chosen for a chance to join. After working in the corporate world, it feels like I can breathe for the first time … AHHHH. Thank you for your work and consideration.

Time and Money! These are the two reasons that stop us from doing what we love. I am no different. I have had my eye on Lifebook since 2012, but time and money have always gotten in the way. However, 2015 will be different! I have purposefully lessoned my load by going from a full time teaching job to a part time teaching job so I can spend more time with my family (hubby and 3 wonderful children) and have time to do what I love – art! I am hoping to win a spot into Lifebook 2015 since my full time pay has also been reduced to part time pay, but nevertheless, I am excited for the new opportunities in Lifebook 2015.

I would love to win a spot for 2015. The idea of being in community touches and warms my heart. The thought of being a able to learn from such a wild, eclectic, zany bunch of teachers excites me so! I can feel it in my fingers and my toes! The Aha! Eureka! knowing that this is a tribe I would like to be creative with. I am a retired public school teacher of kindergarten munchkins so I am having to learn how to swim about in the world on limited funds. I was in Shiloh Sophia McCloud Lewis’s Red Madonna red thread circle in 2013 and have been hearth keeper for her RM Matrix 2014. If I could be a part of your Lifebook 2015 I could lead sooooo very much. I appreciate your kind thoughtfulness for considering me for the gift or receiving Lifebook has to offer for free!!!

Hi Tam I am teaching myself by doing mixed media classes on the web and have been amazed at the generosity of the “art world tutors” I have come across. However I am in a bit of a bind at the moment, still trying to develop my own style so would really welcome the opportunity to work with all your amazing teachers and you of course, and delve deeper into my creative being and bring out what I believe is hiding therein. PS love your work

Hi Tam and Gracie, my daughter and I have been following your site for a long time and loving what you do. For my gal, art is her greatest passion, therapy, outlet, joy, nest when she needs a safe place, and the most natural and beautiful way to express herself. I could spend all day doodling alongside her and watching her create! I would love to win a place on Life Book 2015 for her and I to take the journey together. (She will turn 10 in a couple of weeks and is planning, in her words, ‘A day of cake, happiness and dancing’!!! Gotta love that!)

I discovered and joined Life Book late in the year, but knew already during Week 1 that I would be joining Life Book 2015. I was a cardmaker & scrapbooker and yearned to get into mixed media, but had no clue where to begin – there seemed to be so much to learn. I’ve learned a tremendous amount in the 10 or so lessons I’ve completed at this point. Tam, Gracie and “the tribe” are amazing and I can’t imagine my life without Life Book now. I think about Life Book 24/7 and wish I could quit my job to completely devote my life to making art…hehe. Pick me! Pick me!

Now is a good time for me to begin this journey. My husband of only five years has been recently diagnosed with cancer and our new life together is facing some scary changes. I have much to explore in a safe and encouraging environment.

I’m always up for starting over in the new year. I’ve never participated in Life Book (been too busy ), but it certainly has caught my eye from time to time. Turning the big 50 this year, makes me look ahead and where I want my life to head. As an instructor, my art time diminishes and I find myself wishing for more fun art time. So I think spending a year playing with such a great group of instructors could only be a win win situation. xoxo

What a fantabulous introduction to Lifebook 2015! This is a glorious opportunity to be involved with so many creative, life affirming caring, & giving souls! I love playing around with all sorts of things related to making art.
I’ve been making some sort of art all of my life. I love experimenting, learning & giving to help others in various ways by giving some of my creations. Although I went to a Fine Arts College & have taken some classes over the years from some artists, I’ve never participated in an online art making event, so I’m excited!
Fortunately, I’ve been able to help various people in need by donating some of my creations.
I got into making glass beads & got involved in the BOC program, ( donating over 1000 beads, each year, for three years in a row.

I would be thrilled to have the opportunity to participate in Lifebook 2015!

Tam, thank you so much for all the wonderful vibes you emit from your grand sharing in the world. You are truly an angel on this planet.

Dear Tam, I was introduced to you by Dr. Fay Yunus, my sister in law. (you met her in Bali). My dad passed away this year and both my Mum and I had a rough time taking care of him. It was very taxing and nerve wrecking. But when Fay introduced me to your art I was absolutely stunned by how wonderful, gracious and kind you are. I also realized that art helps me to release negative energy and it gives me a purpose in my life. Now my Mum has to have an operation on her spine and I have to take care of her for another year. I would love to win a spot on your Life Book 2015 as I know it will help me to mentally relax and and focus my mind on something beautiful after taxing days of taking care of mum, surgery and hospitals. At least I can come back to my art and free my soul. Thank you

I’ve only just started lifebook 2014, but definitely want to participate in 2015. I can really relax with life book and just do my thing. Relaxation is very important for me as a person. Because I work with people with dementia and upon returning home I enjoy my two children, both with ADHD. So I really need my time to relax. In my hobby, I am really seeking, but find that I really go to certain topics with lifebook. Especially week 6 and 28. Drawing faces and working with inks, great. I still find it hard to know what to invent for myself, now i imitate allot :-). But my own ideas start to come. I want to thank you very much Tam:-) You give me my one art, relaxation time, art skills and especially enjoy to be creative. Thank You

2014 has been a rough year for me on a personal level which hasn’t allowed me to do much in the way of using my creative juices. My artistic soul feels as though it has been pushed to the bottom of the list for months and months. I’ve lost a lot on financial and personal levels. 2015 will be my 60th year on this planet and I would like to get a fresh/positive start with your journaling experience. I keep seeing the ads for these art journaling classes but have to pass them up because of all the “stuff” I’ve had to take care of. I’m almost finished with “taking care of business” and can feel the rush of new and exciting artistic possibilites coming around in 2015. Your classes look like they would be a lot of fun, inspiration and great support. Thank you, for this opportunity to possibly win! Blessings to you.

Capturing my most sacred thoughts is very important to me. Not only because I feel that documentation is essential but because I want to leave something tangible for someone else. Life Book will offer me that chance.

Participating in Life Book will help me develop a greater sense of accountability towards my peers and my creative following. I desire to give freely of my creative being so that I can nurture and continue being authentic for the ones among us and ultimately, for those to come. Perhaps, another reason why I’d love to win is simply because it is so “life giving” with a resounding energy! Greetings Tam,
I am throwing my paintbrush in the ring for a chance to be a part of Life Book 2015. As many, I too have a story to tell and a journey to continue. I am a mother of two exceptional children both in their own special ways. In this past year, I have had to embrace the significant challenges of having a child with a mental illness and losing the other to college. To top off the entirety of dealing with some significant life changes, I am now recovering from very extensive back surgery. What does this mean for me??? Time, Time that I have never had to explore, develop or focus on myself and what creative energy I have tucked away inside. I have followed you and your work for a couple of years now, but have never had the time or energy to participate. I too, like others would be honored to be given the “fellowship” of a unique and special gift.

You just never know when an opportunity may present itself for us to grow, learn and connect with other like minded souls.

Thank you also for a chance to win a special spot!!!

Hey Tam and all the Willowing Art Gang. I must be jinked as I have been unable to comment on your site for a chance to win a LifeBook 2015. Hopefully this one will stick! I have been watching you for a year now & I LOVE your Art & your TEACHING and your GIVING SPIRIT. I’ve never won anything before, but there is always that first time, right? I am disabled now with a nasty disease called Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy. In layman’s terms. PAIN, PAIN, AND MORE PAIN. My Nerve endings are not growing properly. Half my body burns most of the time. So many Surgeries and Drugs later… My Doctors tell me…. Find your place in your Art! It will elevate some of the pain. And sure enough. It works. There is an imbalance of chemicals to the center (pain center) of my brain. I have implants and have to be very careful of undo stress. But Art….. The flow of it….. The stream of it, pushes pain back in my brain. Amazing how our bodies work. I would love to STREAM with all of you incredible teachers. I hope to minister to woman with similar issues. And to take them along as you have countless other women. I was invited by a therapist to teach an art study for a woman’s retreat. But…. I just didn’t have the level of skill and knowledge of technique you gorgeous ladies have. I would LOVE to learn from you! I hope that I will be considered for your life Book 2015. I’m ready to go….. if you are. At any rate. Thank you so much for all you do for us. We all equally appreciate your hospitality and your art. God Bless Donna ;))

I am hoping to win a place in LifeBo2015. I just recently began my healing journey after some life changing experiences. the pain has been tremendous, but so has the healing. I am discovering myself in ways I never thought possible. You helped with that so much Tam! I do have to say, at first some of the work was difficult for me. Tears flowed, but the amazing results speak for themselves. You are amazing. Thank you for sharing and giving such a gift to us.

I love art in all its forms, and truly feel that making art and sharing my art is the breath of life to me. Also, it is so much fun to just learn from different artists and try on their styles. Everyone is so different, even with the same media. I have been itching to join Life Book, this would be a wonderful opportunity for me.

I am a convert. My profession is voice over and I am working on my second business. I went to a master mind retreat and we did art journaling….I then went home and decided to start doing DOODLE DEE DO FRIDAY for my English language learning blog. I would love to be able to stretch myself in fantastic way with DOODLE DEE DO FRIDAY for 2015!

I love the idea of life book 2015, page by page. Please consider me for the winning spot so I can join you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

If I did Lifebook 2014, is the 2015 different enough to make it worth taking? I love your teachers, techniques, art etc. but I want to make sure the lesson are all new and not repeats/reruns from 2014. I get the impression LifeBook 2015 is new material, but I just want to make sure before I sign up.

I was looking for an email to ask you if you had seen the Mixed Media Travelbook with brush and pocket made by Daler-Rowney Cachet with 120b paper I found it at Michaels in US for 24.99 and it has 40 7×10 pieces of paper. You had mentioned in a You tube video about liking the paper from Daler-Rowney I think and so far this is the best mixed media paper I have found in a journal form.

Hi, I want to sign up for the Life book 2015 but I would also like to do the Fabulous faces class, I was wondering if I really need to do the Fabulous Faces or does the Life book 2015 cover faces in it? Thanks

    1. Gracie Howle
Gracie Howle March 23, 2015 at 2:23 pm · Reply

Hi there, thank you for getting in touch! Life Book does cover faces but not in as much depth as Fabulous Faces. So it really depends on how much depth you want to go into. Fabulous Faces is specifically a course that covers faces, whereas Life Book covers many different mixed media and art techniques. We also run smaller classes on faces (The Summer Series), each Summer Series class goes into depth on creating one specific face, but isn’t a big course like Fabulous Faces. You can find out about the Summer Series here: I hope that helps? Gracie x

Gidday Gracie, I signed up for Life Book 2015 and got side-tracked with life!!!!! I spilt a cup of coffee on my laptop and it got into the hard-drive (yes I know – already had the lecture from my husband and teenage children). Anyways, I cant access any of the lessons from 2015 because we cant get anything off the harddrive. I was wondering if you have any suggestions so that I can access the classes from 2015.
