you are a breathing thing

By Tamara Laporte  |   in love notes  | Tags: be soft with you , tamara laporte art , abstract , willowing art

Hi friend. :)

I’ve been playing with abstract art and reading Nayyirah Waheed poetry.

This poem by her:

be softer with you.
you are a breathing thing.
a memory to someone.
a home to a life.

touched me so much this week and thought it would possible speak to you too.

So I added her poem to my latest painting, I loved adding the birdie (after it was first and for a while mostly abstract) and Nayyirah’s beautiful words.

How are you ‘soft with you’? And how can you maintain that?
I love the idea that we are ‘home to a life’. Isn’t that just so beautiful?

May you be soft with you.
Tam x

Been working on this new abstract spread! Not sure if it’s finished yet but love where it’s now and the colour scheme = ♥️. I struggle with abstract art but love looking at it! Do you find abstracts harder or easier to make compared to paintings with clear subjects?

A therapist once told me that she didn’t think I ‘would’ve made it’ had I not had art in my life. Not sure how helpful it was of her to say that and not sure if that was a correct assessment, but it tells you 2 things: 1. She was struck by the trauma I have experienced and 2. She was aware how powerful making art can be. It is also why I love the attached cartoon so much! 😊
