A Year of Light is a year-long, immersive mixed media art course which explores the myriad aspects of light, both literal and metaphorical. This course is hosted by renowned artist and author; Tamara Laporte from Willowing Arts. She is joined by 30 incredible artists to provide you with an illuminating new creative experience! On this course, we dive deeply into the concept of light and its profound implications in art, emotion and expression.
A throwback to this journal page I love so much. The quote says: `What if I fall, oh darling what if you fly`? By Erin Hanson. The full quote is: "There is freedom waiting for you, On the breezes of the sky, And you ask "What if I fall?" Oh but my darling, What if you fly?" - It`s one of my favourite quotes about taking risks, trusting life and the process and the idea that there is an unconditionally loving force behind you, gently encouraging you to grow, try new things and be your full authentic self without fear.
Last year, I made an expressive watercolour painting of an owl for Watercolour Wildlife and later last year, I made another cool owl for Woman Unleashed. I’ve been wanting to make a series of owls ever since. Here is the 3rd in a series! 😊 I’ll be making a few more! 😍😍😍 They are some of my most favourite animals.
Soooo, my next class will be learning how to paint "expressive soul portraits" (omg so excited about this!) and currently editing the videos and LOVED this shot of one of the portraits mid-way. What I love about this way of working is that you can get all your raw emotions out and just make crazy messes to help facilitate all of the stuff that is going on for you and then you come out of the process refreshed and renewed and sometimes (not always) with an emotive, beautiful outcome, too! 😊 Check out all the layers and textures in this. Think at this point, it`s about 30% into the painting process. It goes through a lot more transformation before it`s finished.
Here is the final painting! 😁Wow, it was a labour of love and she challenged me, but I finally got it to a point that I love it! 😊
